Sashiko

Sashiko (刺し子?, literally “little stabs”) is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching (or functional embroidery) from Japan. The white cotton thread on the traditional indigo blue cloth gives sashiko its distinctive appearance. I found kits on Etsy here. (images are from all over the web; hands are from Water-fall)

Edit: I just discovered SRI Threads and I’m positive some of the photos shown here are from their blog. If you are interested, there are loads more gorgeous samples of Sashiko on the gallery’s site.
